AUV Lab Vehicles

The MIT AUV Lab currently maintains and operates three major autonomous vehicles: 2 Odyssey IIx class, 1 ASC

 Odyssey IIx

Refurbished and ready to explore the deeps, Xanthos was given a new interior and tailcone during the Fall 2003/Spring 2004 Engineering Trials out west at MBARI and down south in Florida. She is now equipped with a 600 kHz sidescan sonar and a 1.3 megapixel digital firewire camera and 200J strobe. Read the complete specifications.

 Odyssey IId

With over 500 successful dives this AUV is a reliable and highly capable platform. Originally built as one of five Odyssey IIb class AUVs in 1995, Xanthos was heavily upgraded to the Odyssey IIc class during the summer of 2000. In late 2001, installation of brand new control electronics and software yielded the Odyssey IId class and proving the versatility of the basic Odyssey II design.Read the complete specifications.

 ASC (Autonomous Surface Craft)

The AUV Lab and affiliated Sea Grant researchers have been developing Autonomous Surface Craft (ASCs) since the early 1990's.
